Suzi Quatro – The Artist
Susan Kay Quatro better known as Suzi Quatro (born 1950) is an American rock singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and actress. She was the first female bass player to become a major rock star and play glam rock. In the 1970s, Suzi Quatro scored a string of hit singles that found greater success in Europe and Australia than in her homeland. She reached no. 1 in the UK and other European countries and Australia with her singles “Can the Can” (1973) and “Devil Gate Drive” (1974). Following a recurring role as bass player Leather Tuscadero on the popular American sitcom Happy Days, her duet “Stumblin’ In” with Smokie’s lead singer Chris Norman reached No. 4 in the US.
Quatro released her eponymous debut album in 1973. Since then, she has released fifteen studio albums, ten compilation albums, and one live album. Her other solo hits include “48 Crash”, “Daytona Demon”, “The Wild One”, and “Your Mama Won’t Like Me”.
Devil Gate Drive – The Song
‘Devil Gate Drive’ is a song by American singer Suzi Quatro. It was Quatro’s second (and final) solo number one single in the UK, spending two weeks at the top of the chart in February 1974. She also reached number one again, in the UK, 13 years later (as part of the Ferry Aid band in a charity version of the Lennon–McCartney song “Let It Be”). Written and produced by Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman, “Devil Gate Drive” was the second number one in a row for the “ChinniChap” writing and production team, following the success of “Tiger Feet” by Mud.
Suzi Quatro’s Leather Jump Suit – The Shape
This record has been modelled into a leather jumpsuit as worn by Suzi Quatro. Apparently inspired by Elvis Presley Suzi Quatro wore a custom made gold leather jumpsuit with zip cuffs and centre opening. She wore it for live acts and promotional stills. She also wore a black leather version which along with her bass guitar helped create her distinctive image.
