Primal Scream – The Artist

Primal Scream are a Scottish rock band originally formed in 1982 in Glasgow by Bobby Gillespie (vocals) and Jim Beattie. The band’s current lineup consists of Gillespie, Andrew Innes (guitar), Martin Duffy (keyboards), Simone Butler (bass), and Darrin Mooney (drums). Barrie Cadogan has toured and recorded with the band since 2006 as a replacement after the departure of guitarist Robert “Throb” Young. Primal Scream had been performing live from 1982 to 1984, but their career did not take off until Gillespie left his position as drummer of The Jesus and Mary Chain. The band were a key part of the mid-1980s indie pop scene, but eventually moved away from their jangly sound, taking on more psychedelic and garage rock influences, before incorporating a dance music element to their sound with their 1991 album Screamadelica, which broke them into the mainstream. The band have continued to explore different styles on subsequent albums, experimenting with blues, trip hop and industrial rock.

Higher Than The Sun – The Song

Higher Than The Sun is a song by Scottish Rock band, Primal Scream. It was released as a single from Screamadelica their third studio album. It was first released on 23 September 1991 in the United Kingdom by Creation Records. The album marked a significant departure from the band’s early indie rock sound, drawing inspiration from the blossoming house music scene and associated drugs such as LSD and MDMA. Much of the album’s production was handled by acid house DJ Andrew Weatherall and engineer Hugo Nicolson, who remixed original recordings made by the band into dance-oriented tracks.

The Primal Scream Sun God – The Shape

This record has been modelled into the Sun God image as taken from the studio album. ‘Screamadelica’. The album cover for Screamadelica was painted by Creation Records’ in-house artist Paul Cannell. Cannell was inspired by a damp water spot he’d seen on the Creation Records offices ceiling after taking LSD. Screamadelica was among ten album covers chosen by the Royal Mail for a set of “Classic Album Cover” postage stamps issued in January 2010.
