Elton John – The Artist

Sir Elton Hercules John CBE (born Reginald Kenneth Dwight) is an English singer, pianist, and composer. He has worked with lyricist Bernie Taupin as his songwriting partner since 1967; they have collaborated on more than 30 albums to date. In his five-decade career Elton has sold more than 300 million records, making him one of the best-selling music artists in the world. He has also composed music, produced records, and has occasionally acted in films.

Honky Cat – The Song

‘Honky Cat’ is a song by English musician Elton John with lyrics by Bernie Taupin. It was used as the opening track for John’s fifth studio album, Honky Château, released in 1972. “Honky Cat” was also released as the A-side of Elton John’s thirteenth single. It also featured in the film ‘Rocketman’ which is a 2019 biographical musical film based on the life of musician Elton John. Lyrically “Honky Cat” tells the tale of a country boy who moves to the city and the response he got from certain people. (Get Back)  The word “honky” is actually an old-school derogatory term used in America against White people. In the context of this song, “honky” is used as a generalisation, as in to symbolise the singer truly being a “redneck”, i.e. someone born and raised out on the countryside.
