Additional information about this, The Belle Stars vinyl art.

The Belle Stars – The Artist/s

The Belle Stars were an all female British pop/rock band, founded by former members of The Bodysnatchers in 1980. The original lineup consisted of guitarists Stella Barker and Sarah-Jane Owen, saxophonist Miranda Joyce, keyboardist Penny Leyton, drummer Judy Parsons, bass player Lesley Shone and lead vocalist Jennie Matthias (also known as Jenny McKeown and Jenny Bellestar). Keyboard player Penny Leyton left the band in 1981, to be replaced on saxophone and keyboards by Clare Hirst. They had a hit with “The Clapping Song” before, what became their signature single, “Sign of the Times”, peaking at number three, and a chart success throughout Europe. The song’s music video, showing the Belle Stars in dinner jackets, was also played frequently by MTV in the United States. “Sign of the Times” was followed a month later by the band’s eponymous debut album.

The Clapping Song – The Song

‘The Clapping Song’  is an American song, written by Lincoln Chase, originally arranged by Charles Callello and recorded by Shirley Ellis in 1965. The song was released shortly after Ellis had released “The Name Game”. “The Clapping Song” incorporates lyrics from the song “Little Rubber Dolly”, a 1930s song recorded by the Light Crust Doughboys, and also features instructions for a clapping game. The single sold over a million copies. This 1982 version of the ‘Clapping Song’ is by The Belle Stars which charted at number 11 in the UK.

The Clapping Hands  – The Shape

This record has been modelled into two hands clapping.

Clap for Our Carers, also known as Clap for Carers, Clap for the NHS or Clap for Key Workers, is a recurring not-for-profit movement created as a gesture of appreciation for the workers of the United Kingdom’s National Health Service (NHS) and other key workers during the global pandemic of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), which spread to the United Kingdom in January 2020. The idea originated in Europe before being appropriated by Annemarie Plas in the UK, a Dutch expatriate living in London, who promoted a campaign which took place every Thursday evening at 20:00 between 26 March and 28 May 2020. Many celebrities, influencers, politicians, and public figures supported the campaign.
