Additional information about this, Ian Dury and the Blockheads vinyl art.

Ian Dury & The Blockheads – The Artist

Ian Robins Dury (1942 – 2000) was an English singer-songwriter and actor who rose to fame during the late 1970s, during the punk and new wave era of rock music. He was the lead singer of Ian Dury and the Blockheads and before that of Kilburn and the High Roads. Dury’s lyrics are a combination of lyrical poetry, word play, observation of British everyday life, character sketches, and sexual humour.

What A Waste! – The Song

‘What a Waste!is a song and single by Ian Dury and the Blockheads, originally released in 1978 on Stiff Records. The song has remained in The Blockheads’ set following Dury’s death.
Essentially it is a song about being in a job that makes you happy, Dury claimed in a 1984 interview with Penthouse that while not condemning 9-to-5 jobs, he had written the song to make people question their lives, echoing the sentiments of his earlier single “Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll”. The song’s verses list a number of things the song’s narrator could have been, from a driver, poet, teacher or soldier to an inmate in a long-term institution and the ticket man at Fulham Broadway station before the chorus reveals that instead he chose to ‘play the fool in a six-piece band’.

The Vintage Dustbin – The Shape

This record has been modelled into a vintage metal dustbin and lid which was a common site in the UK before the introduction of disposable waste sacks and the plastic wheelie bin. A waste container, also known as a dustbin, garbage can, and trash can is a type of container that is usually made out of metal or plastic. The words “rubbish”, “basket” and “bin” are more common in British English usage; “trash” and “can” are more common in American English usage. “Garbage” may refer to food waste specifically (when distinguished from “trash”) or to municipal solid waste in general. In 1875, the first household rubbish bins were introduced in Britain to create a regulated system of collection.
