The Singing Sheep – The Artist/s
The Singing Sheep are a collection of nameless sound engineers who under the instruction of Richard Branson joined forces to make some songs using the baaing sound of sheep.
Baa-Baa Black Sheep- The Song
‘Baa-Baa Black Sheep‘ was a novelty pop song featuring the sound of baaing sheep arranged by Jeff Mutton. Baa-Baa Black Sheep is an English nursery rhyme, the earliest printed version of which dates from around 1744. The words have barely changed in two and a half centuries. It is sung to a variant of the 18th-century French melody “Ah! vous dirai-je, maman”. From the little information available we have heard that Richard Branson (Owner of Virgin Records) was told by his Aunt (Claire Hoare) of the singing talents of her sheep. Naamely The ingleworth and Blickling Flock, Ingworth, Aylsham, Norfolk. He send a sound crew of engineers to her flock in Norfolk and recorded the sheep in question. Plus a collection of other farmyard animals. Via the wonders of 80’s technology, the baas, clucks, quacks, and moos were pitch-altered and spliced together to form a single that was released just in time for Christmas: “Baa-Baa Black Sheep”.
The Domestic Sheep- The Shape
This record has been carefully crafted into a sheep. Sheep or domestic sheep are a domesticated, ruminant mammal typically kept as livestock. Although the term sheep can apply to other species in the genus Ovis, in everyday usage it almost always refers to domesticated sheep. Like all ruminants, sheep are members of the order Artiodactyla, the even-toed ungulates. Numbering a little over one billion, domestic sheep are also the most numerous species of sheep. An adult female is referred to as a ewe, an intact male as a ram, occasionally a tup, a castrated male as a wether, and a young sheep as a lamb.
