Additional information about this Gerry Rafferty vinyl art.

Gerry Rafferty – The Artist

Gerald Rafferty (1947 – 2011) was a Scottish singer-songwriter. He was born into a working-class family in Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland. His mother taught him both Irish and Scottish folk songs as a boy; later, he was influenced by the music of The Beatles and Bob Dylan. He joined the folk-pop group The Humblebums in 1969. After they disbanded in 1971, he recorded his first solo album, Can I Have My Money Back? Rafferty and Joe Egan formed the group Stealers Wheel in 1972 and produced several hits, most notably “Stuck in the Middle with You” and “Star”. In 1978, he recorded his second solo album, City to City, which included Baker Street, his most popular song.

Baker Street – The Song

Baker Street , the song is named after Baker Street in London and was included on Rafferty’s second solo album, City to City (1978). This was Rafferty’s first release after the resolution of legal problems surrounding the formal break-up of his old band, Stealers Wheel, in 1975. In the intervening three years, Rafferty had been unable to release any material because of disputes about the band’s remaining contractual recording obligations. Rafferty wrote the song, Baker Street during a period when he was trying to extricate himself from his Stealers Wheel contracts. During this time he was regularly travelling between his family home in Paisley and London, where he often stayed at a friend’s flat on Baker Street.

Sherlock Holmes – The Shape

Baker Street is a street in the Marylebone district of the City of Westminster in London. It is named after builder William Baker, who laid out the street in the 18th century. The street is most famous for its connection to the fictional detective Sherlock Holmes, who lived at a fictional 221B Baker Street address on the north of the street. The area was originally high class residential, but now is mainly occupied by commercial premises.
