Jo Boxers – The Artist/s

JoBoxers are a British new wave group formed in 1982, when former Subway Sect members Rob Marche (guitarist), Dave Collard (keyboardist), Chris Bostock (bassist), and Sean McLusky (drummer), teamed up with England-based American singer Dig Wayne, under the name Buzz Wayne, had previously fronted the New York-based rockabilly band Buzz and the Flyers. The band’s debut single, “Boxerbeat”, peaked at number three on the UK Singles Chart, while the group were the opening act on the Madness Rise and Fall tour. However, it was their next hit, “Just Got Lucky”, that broke the band internationally. This single sold over 250,000 copies, made the UK Top 10, and cracked the US Top 40, reaching number 36 during November 1983 and has been featured in a number of films. JoBoxers’ debut album, Like Gangbusters, featuring all of the above mentioned hits, reached the Top 20 of the UK Albums Chart. The band split up during the making of a third album and the members went on pursue various music related careers. In November 2020, they announced a reunion show at London’s 100 club, after 35 years of inactivity followed by other dates for 2022.

Boxerbeat – The Song

“Boxerbeat” is a 1983 song by Jo Boxers on the RCA label. Written Dig Wayne, Rob Marche and Dave Collard. It was their debut single and was taken from their first album “Gangbusters”.

The Baker Boy Hat – The Shape

This record has been modelled into Buz Wayne or a Jo Boxer wearing their distinctive Baker Boy style hat and braces. The baker boy hat or newsboy cap, newsie cap (American) is a casual-wear cap similar in style to the flat cap. It has a similar overall shape and stiff peak (visor) in front as a flat cap, but the body of the cap is rounder, made of eight pieces, fuller, and panelled with a button on top, and often with a button attaching the front to the brim (as the flat cap sometimes has).
