Donna Summer – The Artist

LaDonna Adrian Gaines (1948 – 2012), widely known by her stage name based on her married name Donna Summer, was an American singer, songwriter and actress. She gained prominence during the disco era of the late 1970s. Summer has reportedly sold over 100 million records worldwide, making her one of the world’s best-selling artists of all time. She became known as the Queen of Disco, while her music gained a global following.

Diner With Gershwin – The Song

Dinner With Gershwin  is a song written by Brenda Russell. It was first recorded by Donna Summer in 1987, which Russell co-produced with Richard Perry. “Dinner With Gershwin” was the first single off Summer’s All Systems Go album which was Summer’s first album of new material released in three years. “Dinner With Gershwin” was well received received on the UK charts entering the Top 30 in November 1987, with Summer’s November appearance on Top of the Pops – her first – assisting the track to a number 13 peak.

George Gershwin (1898 – 1937) was an American composer and pianist whose compositions spanned both popular and classical genres. Among his best-known works are the orchestral compositions Rhapsody in Blue(1924) and An American in Paris (1928), the songs Swanee (1919) and Fascinating Rhythm (1924), the jazz standard I Got Rhythm (1930), and the opera Porgy and Bess (1935) which spawned the hit Summertime.
