Journey – The Artist
Journey is an American rock band formed in San Francisco in 1973 by former members of Santana, the Steve Miller Band, and Frumious Bandersnatch. The band as of 2024 consists of Neal Schon on guitars and vocals (the last remaining original member); Jonathan Cain on keyboards, guitars and vocals; Deen Castronovo on drums and vocals; Arnel Pineda on lead vocals; Jason Derlatka on keyboards and vocals; and Todd Jensen on bass. Journey had their biggest commercial success between 1978 and 1987, when Steve Perry was lead vocalist; they released a series of hit songs, including “Don’t Stop Believin'” (1981), which in 2009 became the top-selling track in iTunes history among songs not released in the 21st century. Originally a progressive rock band, Journey was described as having cemented a reputation as “one of America’s most beloved commercial rock/pop bands” by 1978, when they redefined their sound by embracing pop arrangements on their fourth album, According to sales data Journey has sold over 100 million records globally, making them one of the world’s best-selling bands of all time. Don’t Stop Believin’is a song by American rock band Journey. It was released in October 1981 as the second single from the group’s seventh studio album, Escape (1981), released through Columbia Records. “Don’t Stop Believin'” shares writing credits between the band’s vocalist Steve Perry, guitarist Neal Schon, and keyboardist Jonathan Cain. It is a mid-tempo rock anthem and power ballad. the dawn of the 1980s, Journey was becoming one of the most successful rock acts of the era. The band added Cain on keyboards before entering the studio to record Escape. Cain had kept the song title from encouragement his father gave him as a struggling musician living on Los Angeles’ Sunset Boulevard. A top-10 worldwide hit in 1981, “Don’t Stop Believin'” became the group’s signature song and has continued to endure over the years. Decades after its release, in 2012 it became the best-selling digital track from the twentieth century, with over seven million downloads by 2017.
