Additional information about this Beastie Boys vinyl art.

Beastie Boys – The Artist

Beastie Boys were an American rap rock group from New York City, formed in 1978. The group was composed of Michael “Mike D” Diamond (vocals, drums), Adam “MCA” Yauch (vocals, bass) and Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz (vocals, guitar, programming). Beastie Boys have sold over 20 million records in the US alone, making them one of the biggest-selling rap groups. With seven platinum-selling albums from 1986 to 2004, Beastie Boys were one of the longest-lived hip hop acts worldwide. The band disbanded in 2012 when Yauch died of cancer.

(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party)  – The Song

‘(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party) (sometimes shortened to “Fight for Your Right”) is a song by American hip hop group the Beastie Boys, released as the fourth single released from their debut album Licensed to Ill (1986). It is one of their best-known songs,  The song was intended as an ironic parody of “party” and “attitude”-themed songs, such as “Smokin’ in the Boys Room” and “I Wanna Rock”.However, the irony was lost on most listeners. In the music video for (You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!) and in promotional material surrounding the release of the band’s debut album Licensed to Ill, the Beastie Boys’ Mike D wore a chain with a VW emblem around his neck. In the UK and around the world, fans of the band started stealing VW emblems from the fronts of cars on the street and in dealer lots.

The VW Volkswagen Badge – The Shape

This record has been cut into the iconic Volkswagen badge that is often on the front grill and boot of their automobile range. Volkswagen, shortened to VW, is a German automaker founded in 1937 by the German Labour Front and at the request of Adolf Hitler, known for the iconic Beetle and headquartered in Wolfsburg. It is the flagship brand of the Volkswagen Group, the largest automaker by worldwide sales in 2016 and 2017. The group’s biggest market is in China, which delivers 40% of its sales and profits. Popular models of Volkswagen include Golf, Jetta, Passat, Atlas, and Tiguan. The German term Volk translates to “people”, thus Volkswagen translates to “people’s car”.
