Findisfarne – The Artist/s

Lindisfarne are an English folk rock band from Newcastle upon Tyne established in 1968 (originally called Brethren). The original line-up comprised Alan Hull (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Ray Jackson (vocals, mandolin, harmonica), Simon Cowe (guitar, mandolin, banjo, keyboards), Rod Clements (bass guitar, violin) and Ray Laidlaw (drums). They are best known for the albums Nicely Out of Tune (1970), Fog on the Tyne (1971) (which became the biggest selling UK album in 1972), Dingly Dell (1972) and Back and Fourth (1978), and for the success of songs such as “Meet Me on the Corner”, “Lady Eleanor”, “Run for Home”, “Fog on the Tyne” and “We Can Swing Together”.

Fog On The Tyne – The Song

‘Fog on The Tyne’  is song taken from a 1971 album by English rock band Lindisfarne. Bob Johnston produced the album, which was recorded at Trident Studios in Soho, London, in mid 1971 and released in October that year on Charisma Records in the U.K. and Elektra Records in the U.S. It gave the group their breakthrough in the U.K and the single reached the top 10 in the UK singles charts. A heavily reworked version of the title track, with vocals by footballer Paul Gascoigne, was released on 29 October 1990 under the title “Fog on the Tyne (Revisited)”, credited to Gazza and Lindisfarne. It reached number two on the UK singles chart.

The Tyne Bridge – The Shape

This record has been modelled into the silhouette of the Tyne Bridge. The Tyne Bridge is a through arch bridge over the River Tyne in North East England, linking Newcastle upon Tyne and Gateshead. The bridge was designed by the engineering firm Mott, Hay and Anderson, who later designed the Forth Road Bridge, and was built by Dorman Long and Co. of Middlesbrough. The bridge was officially opened on 10 October 1928 by King George V and has since become a defining symbol of Tyneside. It is ranked as the tenth tallest structure in Newcastle.
