Additional information about this, Dexys Midnight Runners vinyl art.

Dexys Midnight Runners – The Artist

Dexys Midnight Runners are an English pop band with soul influences, who achieved their major success in the early to mid-1980s. They are best known in the UK for their songs “Come On Eileen” and “Geno”, both of which peaked at No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart. During the late 1970s and early 1980s, Dexys went through numerous personnel changes over the course of three albums and 13 singles, with only singer/songwriter/co-founder Kevin Rowland remaining in the band through all of the transitions The band broke up in 1987, with Rowland becoming a solo artist. After two failed restart attempts, Dexys was reformed by Rowland in 2003 with new members, as well as a few returning members from the band’s original lineup (known as Dexys Mark I). Dexys released their fourth album in 2012 and a fifth followed in 2016.

Geno – The Song

Geno is a 1980 single by Dexys Midnight Runners. Written by Kevin Archer and Kevin Rowland, it was the band’s second single and their first UK number one. The song is a tribute to soul singer Geno Washington, and performed in approximately the style of Geno Washington’s Ram Jam Band. Rowland and Archer began working on the song in early 1979, with Rowland writing lyrics to Archer’s music. The song bears resemblance to Zoot Money’s Big Roll Band’s “One and Only Man” and The Turtles’ “Happy Together”.

Dungarees – The Shape

Band members of Dexys Midnight Runners wore dungaree overalls made from blue denim, when performing live in their early years and it became a known look for the band.

Jeans are a type of pants or trousers, typically made from denim or dungaree cloth. Often the term “jeans” refers to a particular style of trousers, called “blue jeans”, which were invented by Jacob W. Davis in partnership with Levi Strauss & Co. in 1871 and patented by Jacob W. Davis and Levi Strauss on May 20, 1873. Prior to the Levi Strauss patented trousers, the term “blue jeans” had been long in use for various garments (including trousers, overalls, and coats), constructed from blue-coloured denim. “Jean” also references a (historic) type of sturdy cloth commonly made with a cotton warp and wool weft (also known as “Virginia cloth”). Jean cloth can be entirely cotton as well, similar to denim. Originally designed for cowboys and miners, modern jeans became popular in the 1950s among teenagers, especially members of the greaser subculture. Jeans were a common fashion item in the 1960s hippie subculture and they continued to be popular in the 1970s and 1980s youth subcultures of punk rock and heavy metal. Nowadays, they are one of the most popular types of trousers, especially in Western culture. Historic brands include Levi’s, Lee, and Wrangler.
