The Bay City Rollers – The Artist

The Bay City Rollers are a Scottish pop rock band known for their worldwide teen idol popularity in the 1970s. They have been called the “tartan teen sensations from Edinburgh”, and “the first of many acts heralded as the ‘biggest group since the Beatles’”. The group’s line-up had many changes over the years, but the classic line-up during its heyday included guitarists Eric Faulkner and Stuart Wood, singer Les McKeown, bassist Alan Longmuir, and drummer Derek Longmuir. The Bay City Rollers have sold 120 million records worldwide and are particularly remembered for their singles; Shang-A-Lang, Bye Bye Baby, Give A Little Love and I Wanna Be With You. They were notorious for wearing white uniforms of ‘above the ankle’ trousers emblazoned with tartan and tartan scarfs around their wrists. This style was quickly adopted by their many fans and it became a familiar sight in the 70s with the youth of the day, particularly the girls.

Give A Little Love – The Song

‘Give A Little Love’ by the Bay City Rollers, was a UK number-one single for three weeks in July 1975. It was written by John Goodison and Phil Wainman and produced by Wainman. It was the band’s second and final UK number one, and was the 11th biggest British hit of 1975. Unlike the single version, the original UK album version (on the LP Wouldn’t You Like It) was augmented with a string section, while the US-only Bay City Rollers album had only the basic rhythm track and no strings.

The Heart – The Shape

This record has been modelled into a a loving heart. The heart shape and its meaning has evolved over hundreds of years. Nowadays it means love but before the 13th and 14th centuries it was generally drawn for decorative purposes. People at that time thought of our hearts as books of memory and believed feelings for the beloved were somehow written on your heart.
