Tom Jones – The Artist

Sir Thomas John Woodward OBE (born 7 June 1940), known professionally as Tom Jones, is a Welsh singer. His career has spanned six decades, from his emergence as a vocalist in the mid-1960s with a string of top hits. Jones’s powerful voice has been described as a “full-throated, robust baritone” and his performing range has included pop, R&B, show tunes, country, dance, soul and gospel.
Jones has sold over 100 million records with, including “It’s Not Unusual”, “What’s New Pussycat”, “Delilah”, “Green, Green Grass of Home“, “She’s a Lady”, “Kiss”, and “Sex Bomb”.

Green, Green Grass Of Home – The Song

Green, Green Grass Of Home, was written by Claude “Curly” Putman, Jr. and first recorded by singer Johnny Darrell. It is a country song originally made popular by Porter Wagoner in 1965, That same year, it was sung by Bobby Bare and by Jerry Lee Lewis. Tom Jones learned the song from Lewis’ version, and in 1966, he had a worldwide No. 1 hit with it. The song is about a man who recollects fondly about his childhood while waking up on the day of his execution on death row in prison.
