Additional information about this Cher vinyl art.

Cher – The Artist

Cher is an American singer and actress. Sometimes called the Goddess of Pop, she has been described as embodying female autonomy in a male-dominated industry. She is known for her distinctive contralto singing voice and for having worked in numerous areas of entertainment, as well as adopting a variety of styles and appearances during her six-decade-long career. Cher gained popularity in 1965 as one-half of the folk rock husband-wife duo Sonny & Cher after their song “I Got You Babe” reached number one on the American and British charts. She began her solo career simultaneously, releasing in 1966 her first million-seller song, “Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)”.

Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves – The Song

Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves  was a number 1 single in 1971 by American singer-actress Cher from the album of the same name, her seventh solo album. The song was written by songwriter Bob Stone as a story-song that describes the life of a girl, the narrator of the song, who was “born in the wagon of a traveling show”. The title of this song has also been shown with the alternative spelling “Gypsies”, this being a correct spelling of this word.

Romani Caravan / The Vardo – The Shape

The horse-drawn Romani Caravan or Vardo was originally used by travelling Gypsies, and showmen. Romani caravans served primarily as a means of transport and not as a domicile. These travellers used to to use tents but the caravan offered greater protection from weather conditions and could be outfitted with modern amenities such as wood-burning stoves. Cher used a Romani Caravan as a prop when she dressed up as a romantic gypsy and sung the song, Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves for the popular video.
