Pointer Sisters – The Artist

The Pointer Sisters are an American R&B singing group from Oakland, California that achieved mainstream success during the 1970s and 1980s. Spanning over four decades, their repertoire has included such diverse genres as pop, disco, jazz, electronic music, bebop, blues, soul, funk, dance, country and rock. The Pointer Sisters have won numerous awards, had multiple chart hits and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1994. The group had its origins when sisters June and Bonnie Pointer began performing in clubs in 1969 as ‘Pointers, a Pair’. The line-up grew to a trio when sister Anita Pointer joined them.  The group achieved its greatest commercial success as a trio during the 1980s consisting of the line-up of June, Ruth, and Anita. There hits included “Jump (For My Love)” (1984). ”Automatic” (1984), ”Fire” (1979),”I’m So Excited” (1984) and the “Neutron Dance” (1985). They are considered as one of the most successful dance artists of all time.

I’m So Excited – The Song

‘I’m So Excitedis a song by American vocal group The Pointer Sisters. Jointly written and composed by the sisters in collaboration with Trevor Lawrence, it was originally released in 1982 and saw a remixed re release in 1984. The song was originally recorded for, and appeared on, the Sisters’ album of 1982, So Excited!, and was subsequently released as a single. Since its release many artists have recorded cover versions and it has been used substantially in films.

The ‘Excited’ Emoji – The Shape

This record has been modelled into the ‘Excited’ Emoji.  Emoji are ideograms and smileys used in electronic messages and web pages. Emoji exist in various genres, including facial expressions, common objects, places and types of weather, and animals. They are much like emoticons, but emoji are pictures rather than typographic approximations; the term “emoji” in the strict sense refers to such pictures which can be represented as encoded characters, but it is sometimes applied to messaging stickers by extension. Originally meaning pictograph, the word emoji comes from the Japanese words for “picture”and “character”. Originating on Japanese mobile phones in 1997, emoji became increasingly popular worldwide in the 2010s after being added to several mobile operating systems. They are now considered to be a large part of popular culture in the West.
