The Mission – The Artist

The Mission (known as The Mission UK in the United States) are an English gothic rock band formed in 1986. Initially known as The Sisterhood, the band was started by frontman Wayne Hussey and bassist Craig Adams (both from The Sisters of Mercy), soon adding drummer Mick Brown (Red Lorry Yellow Lorry) and guitarist Simon Hinkler (Artery and Pulp). Aside from Hussey, the lineup has changed several times during the years and the band has been on hiatus twice.

Into The Blue – The Song

‘Into The Blue’ is a song by Gothic rock band The Mission. It was written by the band members, Adams, Brown, Hussey and Hinckler. It was taken from their third studio album, ‘Carved in Sand.’ The album reached #7 in the UK Albums Chart, making it the second of two top ten albums and overall best-selling album in the band’s career. Four singles were released from the album: “Butterfly on a Wheel”, “Deliverance”, “Into the Blue” and “Hands Across the Ocean” / “Amelia”.

The Killer Whale / Orca – The Shape

This record has been modelled into the silhouette of a Killer Whale. The killer whale or orca is a toothed whale belonging to the oceanic dolphin family, of which it is the largest member. It is recognisable by its black body with a white underside and patches near each eye. Killer whales have a diverse diet, although individual populations often specialise in particular types of prey. Some feed exclusively on fish, while others hunt marine mammals such as seals and other species of dolphin. They have been known to attack baleen whale calves, and even adult whales. Killer whales are apex predators, as no animal preys on them.
A cosmopolitan species, killer whales can be found in all of the world’s oceans in a variety of marine environments, from Arctic and Antarctic regions to tropical seas, absent only from the Baltic and Black seas, and some areas of the Arctic Ocean. They are highly social; some populations are composed of very stable matrilineal family groups (pods) which are the most stable of any animal species. Their sophisticated hunting techniques and vocal behaviours, which are often specific to a particular group and passed across generations, have been described as manifestations of animal culture.
