Additional information about this vinyl art.

The Band

The Byrds were an American rock band, formed in Los Angeles, California in 1964. The band underwent multiple lineup changes throughout its existence, with frontman Roger McGuinn remaining the sole consistent member, until the group disbanded in 1973.

Although they only managed to attain the huge commercial success of contemporaries like the Beatles, the Beach Boys, and the Rolling Stones for a short period in the mid-60s, the Byrds are today considered by critics to be one of the most influential bands of the 1960s.

Their signature blend of clear harmony singing and McGuinn’s jangly twelve-string Rickenbackerguitar was immediately absorbed into the vocabulary of popular music and has continued to be influential up to the present day.

Initially, the band pioneered the musical genre of folk rock on their album Mr. Tambourine Man, by melding the influence of the Beatles and other British bands with contemporary and traditional folk music.

The Song

Mr. Tambourine Man is a song written, composed, and originally performed by Bob Dylan. The Byrds also recorded a version of the song, as well as it being the title track of their debut album, Mr. Tambourine Man. The Byrds’ recording of the song was influential in popularising the musical sub-genres of folk rock, leading many contemporary bands to mimic its fusion of jangly guitars and intellectual lyrics in the wake of the single’s success.

The Tambourine

The tambourine is a musical instrument in the percussion family consisting of a frame, often of wood or plastic, with pairs of small metal jingles. Tambourines are often used with regular percussion sets. They can be mounted, for example on a stand as part of a drum kit, or they can be held in the hands and played by tapping or hitting the instrument.
