Enya – The Artist
Eithne Pádraigín Ní Bhraonáin (born 1961; anglicised as Enya Patricia Brennan) known mononymously as Enya, is an Irish singer and composer. With an estimated equivalent of over 80 million albums sold worldwide, Enya is one of the world’s best-selling music artists, in addition to be the best-selling Irish solo artist, and the second-best-selling music act from Ireland overall, after only the rock band U2. Her music has been widely recognised for its use of multi-layers of her own vocals and instrumentation, lengthened reverb, and interwoven elements of Celtic music.
Orinoco Flow (Sail Away) – The Song
‘Orinoco Flow (Sail Away)’ also released as “Orinoco Flow (Sail Away)”, is a song by Irish singer-songwriter Enya from her second studio album, Watermark (1988). It was released on 3 October 1988 by WEA Records in the United Kingdom and by Geffen Records in the United States the following year. The song topped the UK Singles Chart for three weeks and received two Grammy Award nominations for Best Music Video and Best New Age Performance at the 32nd Annual Grammy Awards. The Guardian ranked “Orinoco Flow” at number 77 on its list of the 100 greatest UK number-one singles in 2020. The title of the song is an allusion both to Orinoco Studios (now Miloco Studios), where it was recorded, and to the Orinoco river in South America. The lyrics have been likened to “an itinerary for the most expensive gap year of all time”, mentioning an array of locations like a “global geography lesson”. Locations mentioned in the song include Fiji, Tiree, Peru, Bali, and Cebu.
South America – The Shape
This record has been crafted into the silhouette of South American with the river Orinoco clearly visible. The Orinoco (Spanish pronunciation: [oɾiˈnoko]) is one of the longest rivers in South America at 2,140 km (1,330 mi). Its drainage basin, sometimes known as the ‘”Orinoquia’”, covers approximately 1,000,000 km2 (390,000 sq mi), with 65% of it in Venezuela and 35% in Colombia. It is the fourth largest river in the world by discharge volume of water (39,000 m3/s (1,400,000 cu ft/s) at delta) due to the high precipitation throughout its catchment area (ca 2,300 millimetres per are [0.084 in/sq ft]). The Orinoco River and its tributaries are the major transportation system for eastern and interior Venezuela and the Llanos of Colombia. The environment and wildlife in the Orinoco’s basin are extremely diverse.
