Carpenters – The Artists

The Carpenters were an American vocal and instrumental duo consisting of siblings Karen (1950–1983) and Richard Carpenter (born. 1946). They produced a distinct soft musical style, combining Karen’s contralto vocals with Richard’s arranging and composition skills. During their 14-year career, the Carpenters recorded ten albums, along with numerous singles and several television specials.

Please Mr Postman – The Song

Please Mr Postman is a cover version by the American duo the Carpenters. It is a song written by Georgia Dobbins, William Garrett, Freddie Gorman, Brian Holland and Robert Bateman. It was the debut single by the Marvelettes for the Tamla (Motown) label. Lyrically the song is about the singer hoping that the postman has bought a letter from their lover to them. ‘Please Mr. Postman has been covered several times, including by the British rock group The Beatles in 1963.

The Postal Envelope – The Shape

This record has been modelled into a rectangular envelope that would contain a standard letter.  An envelope is a common packaging item, usually made of thin, flat material. It is designed to contain a flat object, such as a letter or card. Traditional envelopes are made from sheets of paper cut to one of three shapes: a rhombus, a short-arm cross or a kite. These shapes allow the envelope structure to be made by folding the sheet sides around a central rectangular area. In this manner, a rectangle-faced enclosure is formed with an arrangement of four flaps on the reverse side.

A post box (British English; also written postbox; also known as pillar box), also known as a collection box, mailbox, letter box or drop box (American English) is a physical box into which members of the public can deposit outgoing mail intended for collection by the agents of a country’s postal service. The term post box can also refer to a private letter box for incoming mail.
