Amy Winehouse – The Artist

Amy Jade Winehouse (1983 – 2011) was an English singer, songwriter, and musician. With over 30 million records sold worldwide, she was known for her deep, expressive contralto vocals and her eclectic mix of musical genres, including soul, rhythm and blues, reggae, and jazz. Winehouse was a member of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra in her youth, signing to Simon Fuller’s 19 Management in 2002 and soon recording a number of songs before signing a publishing deal with EMI. She also formed a working relationship with producer Salaam Remi through these record publishers. Winehouse’s debut album, Frank, was released in 2003. Many of the album’s songs were influenced by jazz and, apart from two covers, were co-written by Winehouse. Frank was a critical and commercial success in the UK, and beyond, and was nominated for the UK’s Mercury Prize. The song “Stronger Than Me” won her the Ivor Novello Award for Best Contemporary Song from the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors.

You Know I’m No Good – The Songs

‘You Know I’m No Good ‘You Know I’m No Good‘ is a song written and performed by English singer Amy Winehouse from her second and final studio album, Back to Black (2006). “You Know I’m No Good” was released as the second single from Back to Black on 8 January 2007. Originally recorded as a solo track, it was remixed with guest vocals from the Wu-Tang Clan member Ghostface Killah. The original appeared on Winehouse’s album, while the version with Ghostface Killah appears on his album More Fish.

‘In My Bed’ is a song by English singer-songwriter Amy Winehouse from her debut studio album Frank (2003). It was released on 5 April 2004 as the album’s third single (double A-sided with “You Sent Me Flying”), reaching number 60 on the UK Singles Chart. “In My Bed” samples the beat of the Incredible Bongo Band’s 1973 cover of “Apache”. Both “In My Bed” and Nas’ “Made You Look” were produced by Salaam Remi. Nas was a favorite rapper of Winehouse’s, and the two went on to collaborate. A rare live session of Winehouse performing “In My Bed” in 20

Pumps’ o“F**k Me Pumps” is a song by English singer-songwriter Amy Winehouse from her debut studio album, Frank (2003). Written by Winehouse and Salaam Remi, the song was released in the United Kingdom as the album’s fourth and final single on 23 August 2004 under the title “Pumps”—with “Help Yourself” as its coupling track—reaching number 65 on the UK Singles Chart. A clean radio edit was released for promotional purposes. The track is an R&B song with humorous lyrics about stereotypical “gold-digging” girls, and in general women who rely on their looks to get by. The term “f**k-me pumps” or “FMPs” is a slang expression for sexy women’s shoes, particularly those featuring bare heels.

Amy Winehouse – The Shape

This record is modelled into the unmistakable face of Amy Winehouse sporting her messy beehive hair. Amy Winehouse’s iconic hairstyle was a messy beehive, a conical shape of hair piled high on top of the head. It was often styled with a bouffant effect and frequently involved hairpieces to achieve the desired height and volume. The beehive was a signature look for Winehouse and became a symbol of her unique style.
