Santana – The Artist/s

Santana is an American rock band formed in San Francisco in 1966 by Mexican-American guitarist and songwriter Carlos Santana. The band has undergone multiple recording and performing line-ups in its history, with Santana the only consistent member. Santana had early success with their appearance at Woodstock in 1969 and their first three albums, Santana (1969),  Abraxas (1970), and Santana-III (1971). Other important core members during this period include Gregg Rolie, Mike Carabello, Michael Shrieve, David Brown, and José “Chepito” Areas, forming the “classic” line-up. The band is one of the best-selling groups of all time with 43.5 million certified albums sold the US, and an estimated 100 million sold worldwide.

Samba Pa Ti – The Song

‘Samba Pa Ti’ is an instrumental by Latin rock band Santana, from their 1970 album, Abraxas. In English, the title means “Samba for You.” It was released as a single in 1973. It was Santana’s first single to chart in the United Kingdom. The song was written by Carlos Santana after he witnessed a jazz saxophonist playing in the street outside his apartment. “Samba Pa Ti” is one of the group’s most popular and acclaimed songs, and it is still in the band’s tour set lists. 

The Santana-II Electric Guitar – The Shape

Modelled into the silhouette of a Santana-II model guitar, which is the signature guitar of Carlos Santana fitted with PRS Santana-III nickel covered pickups, a tremolo bar, and . 009-. 042 gauge D’Addario strings. He also plays a PRS Santana-MD “The Multidimensional” guitar. An electric guitar is a guitar that requires external amplification in order to be heard at typical performance volumes, unlike a standard acoustic guitar. It uses one or more pickups to convert the vibration of its strings into electrical signals, which ultimately are reproduced as sound by loudspeakers. The sound can be shaped or electronically altered to achieve different timbres or tonal qualities, making it quite different from an acoustic guitar. Often, this is done through the use of effects such as reverb, distortion and “overdrive”; the latter is considered to be a key element of electric blues guitar music and rock guitar playing.
