Rainbow Cottage – The Artist/s
Rainbow Cottage were a British soft rock, and covers act who were formed in Wigan, Lancashire. Initially called the Kibbos, they changed their name in the late-1960s to Rainbow Cottage. They were largely a ‘live’ act, and went through at least thirteen line-ups before they eventually disbanded after playing their final gig in 1987; at Goose Green Labour Club in Wigan. While they had a minor hit in 1976 with ‘Seagull’, they are probably best known for performing the theme tune to the childrens’ TV programme, ‘Cloppa Castle’. The original line-up consisted of Tony Houghton, Graham Hill, Steve Morris and Pip Stokes.
Seagull – The Song
‘Seagull’ is a song by soft rock band Rainbow Cottage and written by band member Brian Gibbs. Lyrically the song tells of how the singer is jealous of the carefree life of a seagull and would give anything to change places with it.
The Seagull – The Shape
This record has been modelled into a costal Seagull. Gulls, or colloquially seagulls, are typically medium to large birds, usually grey or white, often with black markings on the head or wings. They typically have harsh wailing or squawking calls; stout, longish bills; and webbed feet. Most gulls are ground-nesting carnivores which take live food or scavenge opportunistically. Live food often includes crustaceans, molluscs, fish and small birds. Gulls have unhinging jaws which allow them to consume large prey. Gulls are typically coastal or inland species, rarely venturing far out to sea. The large species take up to four years to attain full adult plumage, but two years is typical for small gulls. Large white-headed gulls are typically long-lived birds, with a maximum age of 49 years recorded for the herring gull.
