Lee Dorsey – The Artist
Irving Lee Dorsey (1924 – 1986) was an American pop and R&B singer during the 1960s. His biggest hits were “Ya Ya” (1961) and “Working in the Coal Mine” (1966). Much of his work was produced by Allen Toussaint, with instrumental backing provided by The Meters. His career began as a light weight boxer, then opened up a garage and sung at night in clubs. He was spotted by a talent scout whilst singing and was subsequently offered a recording contract. He had a few hits including “ya Ya Ya”, “Get Out of My Life, Woman” and “Working in the Coal Mine” sold a few million records before retuning to his garage and car repair business.
The Kitty Cat Song – The Song
“The Kitty Cat Song” is is a song performed by Lee Dorsey and written by Naomi Neville. It was the b-side of his single “Ride My Pony”. Naomi Neville is an alias for Allen Toussaint (1938 – 2015) who was an American musician, songwriter, arranger and record producer, who was an influential figure in New Orleans rhythm and blues from the 1950s to the end of the century, described as “one of popular music’s great backroom figures”.

Since the cartoon character’s creation, Hello Kitty has become a media franchise including a product line, clothing apparel, toy line, manga comics, anime series, popular music, and other media. First aimed at pre-teenage females, Hello Kitty’s market included adolescent and adult consumers. A variety of products ranging from school supplies to fashion accessories feature this character.
