20,000 Rezillos Under The Sea – Rezillos (1978) [Captain Nemo]
An Individual, limited edition, example of vinyl record silhouette art made from a genuine, original, 45rpm, 7” single of 20,000 Rezillos Under The Sea from 1978, by the Scottish punk rock band, the Rezillos. Released on the Sire record label, this vinyl single has been reworked into a silhouette of the comic book hero, Captain Nemo from the film and comic book series, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
Rezillos Under The Sea was written by Rossini and arranged by the Rezillos and was released as the B-side to their best selling single, Top of The Pops. The Rezillos were not your typical punks and took a more light-hearted approach to their songs which were heavily influenced by 1950s rock and roll, 1960s English beat music and early 1970s glam rock. A recurring lyrical theme within their songs was of science fiction and B movies.
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is set in 1898 and the plot is concerns Allan Quatermain who is recruited on behalf of British Intelligence and asked to assemble a league of other extraordinary individuals to protect the interests of the Empire: Captain Nemo, Mina Harker, Dr. Jekyll, and Hawley Griffin the Invisible Man. Captain Nemo was originally a character from the 1957 film, 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea. This sci-fi adventure film is considered an early precursor of the Steampunk genre.
