John Denver – The Artist/s

Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. (1943 – 1997), known professionally as John Denver, was an American singer-songwriter, record producer, actor, activist, and humanitarian, whose greatest commercial success was as a solo singer. After traveling and living in numerous locations while growing up in his military family, Denver began his music career with folk music groups during the late 1960s. Starting in the 1970s, he was one of the most popular acoustic artists of the decade and one of its best-selling artists. John Denver recorded and released approximately 300 songs, about 200 of which he composed, with total sales of over 33 million records worldwide. He recorded and performed primarily with an acoustic guitar and sang about his joy in nature, his disdain for city life, his enthusiasm for music, and his relationship trials. An avid pilot, Denver died at the age of 53 in a single-fatality crash while piloting his recently purchased light plane.

Annie’s Song – The Song

‘Annie’s Song’ (also known as “Annie’s Song (You Fill Up My Senses)”) is a folk rock and country song recorded and written by singer-songwriter John Denver. The song was released as a single from Denver’s album Back Home Again. “Annie’s Song” It went to number one in the United Kingdom, where it was Denver’s only major hit single (many of Denver’s American hits were more familiar in the UK through cover versions by other artists). Four years later, an instrumental version also became flautist James Galway’s only major British hit.

“The Greasy Chip Butty Song” is a football chant originally sung by the supporters of Sheffield United football club to the tune of “Annie’s Song”, glorifying life in Sheffield, in chief the eponymous chip butty but also nightlife, beer and tobacco products. The song, with its good-natured humour, has been adopted and adapted by fans of a number of other association football teams, other football codes teams, and by other sports teams, both in the UK and internationally.

The Football / Soccer Shirt  – The Shape

In association football, kit (also referred to as a strip or uniform) is the standard equipment and attire worn by players. Footballers generally wear identifying numbers on the backs of their shirts. Originally a team of players wore numbers from 1 to 11, corresponding roughly to their playing positions, but at the professional level this has generally been superseded by squad numbering, whereby each player in a squad is allocated a fixed number for the duration of a season. Professional clubs also usually display players’ surnames or nicknames on their shirts, above their squad numbers. Football kit has evolved significantly since the early days of the sport and advances in clothing manufacture and printing allowed shirts to be made in lighter synthetic fibres with increasingly colourful and complex designs. With the rise of advertising in the 20th century, sponsors’ logos began to appear on shirts, and replica strips were made available for fans to purchase, generating significant amounts of revenue for clubs.

Sheffield United Football Club is an English professional association football club based in the city of Sheffield, South Yorkshire. The club competes in the Premier League, the top division of English football. The football club was formed in 1889 as an offshoot of Sheffield United Cricket Club, and are nicknamed The Blades due to Sheffield’s history of steel production. The club have played their home games at Bramall Lane since their formation in 1889. Bramall Lane is an all-seater ground with a current capacity of 32,702. Sheffield United won the original Football League in 1898 and the FA Cup in 1899, 1902, 1915 and 1925. They were beaten finalists in the FA Cup in 1901 and 1936, and reached the semi-finals in 1961, 1993, 1998, 2003 and 2014. They reached the semi-finals of the League Cup in 2003 and 2015. For most of the club’s history they have played in red and white striped shirts with black shorts. Their closest rivals are Sheffield Wednesday, with whom they contest the Steel City derby.
