Janet Jackson – The Artist
Janet Jackson (born 1966) is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and dancer. A prominent figure in popular culture, she is known for sonically innovative, socially conscious and sexually provocative records, and elaborate stage shows. The youngest child of the Jackson family, she began her career with the variety television series The Jacksons in 1976 and went on to appear in other television shows throughout the 1970s and early 1980s. After signing a recording contract with A&M Records in 1982, she became a pop icon following the release of her third and fourth studio albums Control (1986) and Rhythm Nation 1814 (1989).

Black Cat is a song by American singer Janet Jackson, released as the sixth single from her fourth studio album Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation 1814 (1989). It was written by Jackson, and produced by Jackson with Jellybean Johnson. In a departure from her standard of industrial-based dance-pop, Black Cat is a pastiche of hard rock and heavy metal with influences of punk, dance-rock, and glam metal. Its lyrics speak of substance abuse and gang violence. It was the final song recorded for the album, after Jackson composed its main riff when desiring a rock song to complete the record.

A black cat is a domestic cat with black fur that may be a mixed or specific breed. Some cultures are superstitious about black cats, ascribing either good or bad luck to them. Black cats are also considered good luck in Britain. Furthermore, it is believed that a lady who owns a black cat will have many suitors. In Western history, black cats have typically been looked upon as a symbol of evil omens, specifically being suspected of being the familiars of witches, or actually shape-shifting witches themselves. Most of Europe considers the black cat a symbol of bad luck, particularly if one walks across the path in front of a person, which is believed to be an omen of misfortune and death.
