The Kinks – The Artist

The Kinks are an English rock band formed in Muswell Hill, North London, in 1964 by brothers Ray and Dave Davies. They are regarded as one of the most influential rock bands of the 1960s. The band emerged during the height of British rhythm and blues and Merseybeat, and were briefly part of the British Invasion of the United States. Their third single, the Ray Davies-penned “You Really Got Me”, became an international hit, topping the charts in the United Kingdom and reaching the Top 10 in the United States. Their music was influenced by a wide range of genres, including rhythm and blues, British music hall, folk and country. They gained a reputation for reflecting English culture and lifestyle, fuelled by Ray Davies’ observational writing style, and are considered one of the most influential groups of the period.

Dedicated Followers of Fashion  – The Song

Dedicated Followers of Fashion is a 1966 single by British band The Kinks. It lampoons the contemporary British fashion scene and mod culture in general. Originally released as a single, it has been included on many of the band’s later albums. Musically, it and “A Well Respected Man” marked the beginning of an expansion in the Kinks’ inspirations, drawing as much from British music hall traditions as from American rhythm and blues, the inspiration for breakthrough Kinks songs like “You Really Got Me”. While it was quite scornful toward them, many of the fashionistas the song mocks would later take its title to heart. Ray Davies claimed that the song was inspired by a fight he had with a fashion designer at a party.

The Paper Dolls Womans Dress – The Shape

Modelled into a paper dolls womans dress. Paper dolls are figures cut out of paper or thin card, with separate clothes, also made of paper, that are usually held onto the dolls by paper folding tabs. They may be a figure of a person, animal or inanimate object. Paper dolls have been inexpensive children’s toys for almost two hundred years. Today, many artists are turning paper dolls into an art form. Paper dolls have been used for advertising, appeared in magazines and newspapers, and covered a variety of subjects and time periods. Over the years, they have been used to reinforce cultural beliefs regarding the appearance of ideal women.

. A suit is a set of men’s wear comprising a lounge jacket and trousers. When of identical textile, and worn with a collared dress shirt, necktie, and dress shoes, it is traditionally considered formal wear in Western dress codes. The lounge suit originated as 19th-century casual sports and country wear in Britain, still reflected in the sport coat and blazer worn as smart casual. After replacing the black frock coat in the early 20th century, a darker suit also became known as a business suit for professional occasions, when sober in style. Suits are offered in different designs and constructions. Cut, and cloth, whether two- or three-piece, single- or double-breasted, vary, in addition to various accessories. A two-piece suit has a jacket and trousers, a three-piece suit adds a waistcoat. Other notable types of suits are the semi-formal dinner suit (black tie) and the black lounge suit (stroller), both which arose as less formal alternatives to the formal dress coat for white tie, and the morning coat for morning dress, respectively. Originally, as with most clothes, a tailor made the suit from the client’s selected cloth; these are now often known as bespoke suits. The suit was custom-made to the measurements, taste, and style preferences of the man. Since the 1960s, most suits are mass-produced. As such, they are sold as ready-to-wear garments, although alteration by a tailor prior to wearing is common.
