David Essex – The Artist
David Essex OBE (born David Albert Cook; 1947) is an English singer, songwriter, and actor. Since the 1970s, he has attained 19 Top 40 singles in the UK (including two number ones) and 16 Top 40 albums. Internationally, Essex had the most success with his 1973 single “Rock On”. He has also had an extensive career as an actor. His biggest hits during the 70s included two UK Number One singles: “Gonna Make You a Star” (1974) and “Hold Me Close” (1975). In 1978 he starred in the motorcycle racing film Silver Dream Racer; and the soundtrack song “Silver Dream Machine” was a Top 5 hit in the UK Singles Chart. Essex, a keen motorcyclist, waived his fee for the then-new 1980 electric start Triumph Bonneville he had contracted to advertise on behalf of the struggling Triumph motorcycle workers’ co-operative.
Hold me Close – The Song
‘Hold Me Close’ is a pop rock love song written and performed by English singer and actor David Essex.[2] The song was released in October 1975, and reached the number one position on the UK Singles Chart, where it remained for three weeks.The song was produced by Jeff Wayne and it was Essex’s second and final UK chart-topper. The B-side was titled “Good Ol’ Rock and Roll” (live version). The song appears on the album All The Fun Of The Fair, and is featured in the musical of that name. In 2023 a cover of the song was used in the UK for a Seabrook crisps advert which according to the snack brand “It takes just one bag too Seabrook Crisps to brighten the day.”

These solitary animals are omnivores with a diet of nuts, berries, roots, and meat. Physically, they are distinguishable from black bears by their shoulder hump, “dished” face profile, and longer front claws.
