David Essex – The Artist

David Essex OBE (born David Albert Cook; 1947) is an English singer, songwriter, and actor. Since the 1970s, he has attained 19 Top 40 singles in the UK (including two number ones) and 16 Top 40 albums. Internationally, Essex had the most success with his 1973 single “Rock On”. He has also had an extensive career as an actor. His biggest hits during the 70s included two UK Number One singles: “Gonna Make You a Star” (1974) and “Hold Me Close” (1975). In 1978 he starred in the motorcycle racing film Silver Dream Racer; and the soundtrack song “Silver Dream Machine” was a Top 5 hit in the UK Singles Chart. Essex, a keen motorcyclist, waived his fee for the then-new 1980 electric start Triumph Bonneville he had contracted to advertise on behalf of the struggling Triumph motorcycle workers’ co-operative.

Gonna Make You A Star – The Song

‘Gonna Make You A Star’ is is a pop/rock recording by David Essex. Written by David Essex and produced by Jeff Wayne, “Gonna Make You a Star” was Essex’s first number-one, spending three weeks at the top of the UK Singles Chart, in November 1974. It peaked at number 105 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the USA.  The record featured prominent use of the synthesiser.

The 5-Pointed Star – The Shape

Modelled into a silhouette of a star. A five-pointed star, geometrically a regular concave decagon, is a common ideogram in modern culture. Comparatively rare in classical heraldry, it was notably introduced for the flag of the United States in the Flag Act of 1777 and since has become widely used in flags. It has also become a symbol of fame or “stardom” in Western culture, among other uses.
