Additional information about this Peter Gabriel vinyl art.

Peter Gabriel – The Artist

Peter Gabriel (born1950) is an English singer-songwriter, record producer and humanitarian who rose to fame as the original lead singer of the progressive rock band Genesis. After leaving Genesis in 1975, Gabriel launched a successful solo career. Gabriel has been a champion of world music for much of his career. He co-founded the WOMAD festival in 1982.[ He has continued to focus on producing and promoting world music through his Real World Records label. He has also pioneered digital distribution methods for music, co-founding OD2, one of the first online music download services. Gabriel has also been involved in numerous humanitarian efforts and has participated in several human rights benefit concerts, and co-founded the Witness human rights organisation.

I Have The Touch – The Song

I Have The Touch was written by English rock musician Peter Gabriel from his album Peter Gabriel. The song’s working title during the recording sessions was Hands. The song was featured in the movie The Chocolate War (1988), an off-beat film that explored the Catholic School’s strictness of a common tradition of students raising money by selling chocolate bars. The 1996 remix with Robbie Roberston, was used in the film Phenomenon of the same year.

The Human Hand – The Shape

This record has been carefully crafted into an outstretched human hand. A hand is a prehensile, multi-fingered appendage located at the end of the forearm or forelimb of primates such as humans, chimpanzees, monkeys, and lemurs. A few other vertebrates such as the koala (which has two opposable thumbs on each “hand” and fingerprints extremely similar to human fingerprints) are often described as having “hands” instead of paws on their front limbs. Fingers contain some of the densest areas of nerve endings in the body, and are the richest source of tactile feedback. They also have the greatest positioning capability of the body; thus, the sense of touch is intimately associated with hands. Like other paired organs (eyes, feet, legs) each hand is dominantly controlled by the opposing brain hemisphere, so that handedness—the preferred hand choice for single-handed activities such as writing with a pencil, reflects individual brain functioning. Among humans, the hands play an important function in body language and sign language. Likewise, the ten digits of two hands and the twelve phalanges of four fingers (touchable by the thumb) have given rise to number systems and calculation techniques.
