The Style Council – The Artist/s

The Style Council were an English band formed in 1983 by Paul Weller, the former singer, songwriter, and guitarist with the punk rock/new wave/mod revival band The Jam, and keyboardist Mick Talbot, previously a member of Dexys Midnight Runners, The Bureau and The Merton Parkas. The band enabled Weller to take a more soulful direction with his music.
The permanent line-up grew to include drummer Steve White and Weller’s then girlfriend, vocalist Dee C. Lee.

The Long Hot Summer- The Song

Long Hot Summer is a song recorded by the English band The Style Council. It was composed by lead singer Paul Weller, recorded between 12 and 17 June 1983 in the Grande Armée Studios in Paris, and released on 8 August 1983. In the UK “Long Hot Summer” was the lead track of an EP, released as the group’s third single, titled À Paris. The promotional video for “Long Hot Summer” was filmed on the River Cam in Cambridge. The song reached number three in the UK singles chart; this, it transpired, made it the Style Council’s biggest hit, and it remains a staple of Paul Weller’s live concerts. By coincidence, the British summer heat wave of 1983, most notably July, turned out to be one of the hottest on record – something that could not have been known at the time the song was written and recorded.

The Sun – The Shape

This record has been modelled into a silhouette of the sun. The Sun is the star at the centre of the Solar System. It is a nearly perfect sphere of hot plasma, with internal convective motion that generates a magnetic field via a dynamo process. It is by far the most important source of energy for life on Earth. Its diameter is about 1.39 million kilometres, i.e. 109 times that of Earth, and its mass is about 330,000 times that of Earth, accounting for about 99.86% of the total mass of the Solar System. About three quarters of the Sun’s mass consists of hydrogen; the rest is mostly helium, with much smaller quantities of heavier elements, including oxygen, carbon, neon, and iron.
