The Chords – The Artists
The Chords are a 1970s British group, commonly associated with the 1970s mod revival, who had several hits in the UK, before the decline of the trend brought about their break-up. They were one of the more successful groups to emerge during the revival, and they re-formed with the four original members for a UK tour during 2010. The original quartet consisted of singer / guitarist Billy Hassett, bassist Martin Mason, guitarist / songwriter, Chris Pope and drummer Paul Halpin. Though Halpin eventually became the group’s tour manager an was replaced by Brett “Buddy” Ascott.
Now It’s Gone – The Song
‘Now It’s Gone‘ was the debut single by the mod revival quartet, The Chords. Written by guitarist Chris Pope it rose to No. 63 in the UK Singles Chart. Lyrically its concerns a man reminiscing over the ending of a relationship. In addition to it being released in its own right the song was given away free as a single with their debut album ‘So Far Away’ in 1980 but was also included in their second studio album, ‘No One Is Listening Anymore’ issued in 1986.
