Willie Nelson – The Artist
Willie Hugh Nelson (born, 1933) is an American singer, guitarist, songwriter, actor and activist. He was one of the main figures of the outlaw country sub-genre that developed in the late 1960s as a reaction to the conservative restrictions of the Nashville sound. The critical success of his album Shotgun Willie (1973), combined with the critical and commercial success of Red Headed Stranger (1975) and Stardust (1978), made Nelson one of the most recognised artists in country music. Nelson has acted in over 30 films, co-authored several books, and has been involved in activism for the use of biofuels and the legalisation of marijuana.
On the Road Again – The Song
On The Road Again is a song written and recorded by American country music singer Willie Nelson. The song, about life on tour, came about when the executive producer of the film Honeysuckle Rose approached Nelson about writing the song for the film’s soundtrack. “On the Road Again” became Nelson’s 9th Country & Western No. 1 hit overall (6th as a solo recording act) in November 1980, and became one of Nelson’s most recognisable tunes. In addition, the song reached No. 20 on the US Billboard Hot 100, and No. 7 on the Adult Contemporary chart. It was his biggest pop hit to that time and won him a Grammy Award for Best Country Song a year later.
