Queen – The Artist

Queen are a British rock band that formed in London in 1970. Their classic line-up was Freddie Mercury (lead vocals, piano), Brian May (lead guitar, vocals), Roger Taylor (drums, vocals), and John Deacon (bass guitar). Queen’s earliest works were influenced by progressive rock, hard rock and heavy metal, but the band gradually ventured into more conventional and radio-friendly works by incorporating further styles, such as arena rock and pop rock, into their music.

Radio Ga Ga – The Song

Radio Ga Ga is a 1984 song performed and recorded by the British rock-band Queen, written by their drummer Roger Taylor. It was included on the album, The Works.  Recorded in 1983 and released in January 1984, the song was a commentary on television overtaking radio’s popularity and how one would listen to radio in the past for a favourite comedy, drama, or science fiction programme. It also addressed the advent of the music video and MTV, which was then competing with radio as an important medium for promoting records. The single was a worldwide success for the band and was number one in many countries.

This record has been crafted into a vintage microphone. A microphone, colloquially nicknamed mic or mike is a transducer that converts sound into an electrical signal. Microphones are used in many applications such as telephones, public address systems for concert halls and public events, motion picture production, live and recorded audio engineering, sound recording, two-way radios. Several different types of microphone are in use, which employ different methods to convert the air pressure variations of a sound wave to an electrical signal.  The image used here is loosely based on the Shure Brothers microphone, model 55s, Multi-Impedance “Small Unidyne” Dynamic from 1951.
