Additional information about this, Steely Dan vinyl art.

Steely Dan – The Artist

Steely Dan is an American rock band founded in 1972 by core members Walter Becker (guitars, bass, backing vocals) and Donald Fagen (keyboards, lead vocals). Blending rock, jazz, traditional pop, R&B, and sophisticated studio production with cryptic and ironic lyrics, the band enjoyed critical and commercial success starting from the early 1970s until breaking up in 1981. Throughout their career, the duo recorded with a revolving cast of session musicians, and in 1974 retired from live performances to become a studio-only band.

Rikki Don’t Lose That Number – The Song

“Rikki Don’t Lose That Number” is a single released in 1974 by rock/jazz rock group Steely Dan and the opening track of their third album Pretzel Logic. It was the most successful single of the group’s career. The song features Jim Gordon on drums, as does the bulk of the Pretzel Logic album. The guitar solo is by Jeff “Skunk” Baxter who would soon go on to join The Doobie Brothers. The songs lyrics have been misinterpreted over the years but Donald Fagen revealed that the “Rikki” in question was simply a woman he’d had a crush on in college and the song was a straightforward lost-love song.

A Vintage Telephone – The Shape

This 7″ record has been modelled into a vintage telephone, of the style that was used at the time of this records release. It had base unit with a rotary dial for dialling the numbers and a separate handset, connected by a wire, for listening and talking.
