An Individual, limited edition, example of vinyl record silhouette art made from a genuine, original, 45rpm, 7” single featuring Song For Guy by Elton John. Released on the Rocket Record Company in 1978, this vinyl single has been reworked into a silhouette of Guy the Gorilla.
Guy the Gorilla (1946–1978) was a western lowland gorilla who was London Zoo’s famous resident, something of an icon and celebrity in the 1960s–70s and was often profiled on children’s TV shows and natural history productions.
Elton John wrote Song For Guy after dreaming morbidly about death only to learn that one of his messengers was killed on his motorcycle the following day. His name was Guy and Elton John consequently dedicated this song to him.
