Additional information about this Superman vinyl art.

Black Lace – The Artist

Black Lace are a British pop band, best known for novelty party records, including their biggest hit, “Agadoo”. The band first came to the public eye after being selected to represent the UK in the 1979 Eurovision Song Contest, in which they finished seventh with the song “Mary Ann”. With numerous line-up changes, Black Lace went on to have success with novelty party anthems such as Superman and “Do the Conga”.

Superman – The Song

Superman (Also known as Gioca Jouer in Italy ) is a novelty song written by Claudio Cecchetto and Claudio Simonetti.  The song featured a number of dance gestures that acted out the lyrics – including walking, swimming, skiing, spraying deodorant, sounding a horn, ringing a bell, flexing muscles as a “Macho Man” and flying like Superman. These dance moves were detailed on the record sleeve.

Superman – The Superhero

This record has been cut into the figure of Superman. Superman is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. The character was created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster in 1933. They sold Superman to Detective Comics, the future DC Comics, in 1938. The origin story of Superman relates that he was born Kal-El on the planet Krypton, before being rocketed to Earth as an infant by his scientist father Jor-El, moments before Krypton’s destruction. Discovered and adopted by a farm couple from Kansas, the child is raised as Clark Kent and imbued with a strong moral compass. Early in his childhood, he displays various superhuman abilities, which, upon reaching maturity, he resolves to use for the benefit of humanity through a “Superman” identity.

The Superman shield, also known as the Superman logo, is the iconic emblem for the fictional DC Comics superhero Superman. As a representation of one of the first superheroes, it served as a template for character design decades after Superman’s first appearance. The tradition of wearing a representative symbol on the chest was followed by many subsequent superheroes, including Batman, Green Lantern, the Flash, Wonder Woman, Hawkman, and many others.
In earlier Superman stories, the logo was simply an initial for “Superman”, but in the 1978 film, it became the emblem of the House of El, the family of Superman.
