Additional information about this, Judge Dread vinyl art.

Judge Dread – The Artist

Alexander Minto Hughes (1945 – 1998) better known as Judge Dread, was an English reggae and ska musician. He was the first white recording artist to have a reggae hit in Jamaica, and the BBC has banned more of his songs than those of any other recording artist, because of his frequent use of sexual innuendo and double entendres. Dread had 11 UK chart hits in the 1970s, which was more than any other reggae artist (including Bob Marley). The Guinness Book of World Records credited Judge Dread for having the highest number (eleven) of banned songs of all time. Several of his songs mentioned Snodland, the small town in Kent where Judge Dread lived, including “The Belle of Snodland Town”.

The Winkle Man – The Song

‘The Winkle Man’  is a comedy reggae song by Judge Dread and written by Lemon and Hughes. Full of  sexual innuendo and double entendres, lyrically the song tells the tale of  a sexually active winkle man who went from pub to pub selling his shell fish and serving tthe ladies despite having a small appendage.

The Winkle – The Shape

This record has been modelled into a periwinkle. The common periwinkle or winkle is a species of small edible whelk or sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusc that has gills and an operculum, and is classified within the family Littorinidae, the periwinkles. This is a robust intertidal species with a dark and sometimes banded shell. It is native to the rocky shores of the northeastern, and introduced to the northwestern, Atlantic Ocean. The common periwinkle is sold by fishmongers at seafood markets in large cities around the world, and is also commonly found in seafood restaurants as an appetiser or as a part of a seafood platter. In some countries, pubs may serve periwinkles as a snack. Most of the volume fished, is consumed by France, Belgium, Spain and the Netherlands.
