Cyndi Lauper – The Artist

Cynthia Ann Stephanie Lauper (born 1953) is an American singer, songwriter, actress and activist. Her career has spanned over 40 years. Her album She’s So Unusual (1983) was the first debut album by a female artist to achieve four top-five hits in the US—”Girls Just Want to Have Fun”, “Time After Time”, “She Bop”, and “All Through the Night”—and earned Lauper many awards. Her success continued with the soundtrack for the motion picture The Goonies and her second record True Colors (1986). This album included the number one single “True Colors” and “Change of Heart”. Since 1983, Lauper has released eleven studio albums, participated in many other projects and sold over 50 million records worldwide.

True Colors – The Song

‘True Colors’ (English Spelling True Colours) is a song written by American songwriters Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly. It was both the title track and the first single released from American singer Cyndi Lauper’s second album. It was the only original song on the album that Lauper did not help to write. Released late on the summer of 1986, the song would become a major hit for Lauper both in the UK, and worldwide. “True Colors” also became a standard in the gay community. In various interviews, Lauper elaborated that the song had resonated with her because of the recent death of her friend, Gregory Natal, from HIV/AIDS. Years later, Lauper co-founded the True Colors Fund, a non-profit dedicated to eradicating LGBT youth homelessness.

The Artists Palette  – The Shape

This record has been modelled into a palette with holes to represent the various colours they may be using. An artists palette is a rigid, flat surface on which a painter arranges and mixes paints. A palette is usually made of wood, plastic, ceramic, or other hard, inert, nonporous material, and can vary greatly in size and shape. The most commonly known type of painter’s palette is made of a thin wood board designed to be held in the artist’s hand and rest on the artist’s arm. Watercolour palettes are generally made of plastic or porcelain with rectangular or wheel format with built in wells and mixing areas for colours.
