The Supremes – The Artist
The Supremes were an American female singing group and a premier act of Motown Records during the 1960s. Founded as The Primettes in Detroit, Michigan, in 1959, the Supremes were the most commercially successful of Motown’s acts and are, to date, one of the worlds most successful vocal group with 12 hit singles. Most of these hits were written and produced by Motown’s main songwriting and production team, Holland–Dozier–Holland. At their peak in the mid-1960s, the Supremes rivalled the Beatles in worldwide popularity, and it is said that their success made it possible for future African American R&B and soul musicians to find mainstream success. The original group of Florence Ballard, Mary Wilson, Diana Ross, and Betty McGlown, are all from the Brewster-Douglass public housing project in Detroit.
You Keep Me Hangin’ On – The Song
‘You Keep Me Hangin’ On’ is a song recorded by the American music group the Supremes in 1966 for their studio album titled, The Supremes Sing Holland–Dozier–Holland. It was written and produced by Motown’s main production team Holland–Dozier–Holland. The song became the group’s eighth number-one single in the US and it reached number eight in the UK charts. It has become one of the groups most oft-covered songs.
The Coat Hanger – The Shape
This record has been modelled into a heart hanging from coat hanger. A clothes hanger, coat hanger, or coathanger, is a hanging device in the shape/contour of human shoulders designed to facilitate the hanging of a coat, jacket, sweater, shirt, blouse or dress in a manner that prevents wrinkles, with a lower bar for the hanging of trousers or skirts.
The heart shape and its meaning has evolved over hundreds of years. Nowadays it means love but before the 13th and 14th centuries it was generally drawn for decorative purposes. People at that time thought of our hearts as books of memory and believed feelings for the beloved were somehow written on your heart.
