Adam and the Ants – The Artist

Stuart Leslie Goddard, better known as Adam Ant (born November 1954), is an English singer, musician, and actor. He gained popularity as the lead singer of new wave group Adam and the Ants and later as a solo artist, scoring 10 UK top ten hits from 1980 to 1983, including three UK No. 1 singles. From 1977 to 1982 he performed with Adam and the Ants, and their debut album Dirk Wears White Sox (1979) reached number one on the UK Independent Albums Chart. Prior to recording his second album as Adam and the Ants, he asked producer Malcolm McLaren to manage his band, who instead took his backing band to form Bow Wow Wow. Ant regrouped with new members, including Marco Pirroni, to release his second album Kings of the Wild Frontier (1980). It reached number one in the UK Album Chart, spawned three hit singles, became the UK number-one selling album in 1981. He released his third and final album with the group, Prince Charming (1981), which spawned two UK number-one singles “Stand and Deliver” and “Prince Charming”. In 1982, he disbanded his group for a solo career retaining only Marco Pirroni as a band member and co-songwriter for later solo albums. His first solo album was Friend or Foe (1982), from which the debut single “Goody Two Shoes”

Ant Rap – The Song

“Ant Rap” is a 1981 song performed by the British new wave band Adam and the Ants. Written by Adam Ant and Marco Pirroni, the song was remixed from the version on the group’s 1981 album Prince Charming. It entered the UK Singles Chart in December 1981 at number 9 before rising to a peak position of number three. The setting for the music video is Bodiam Castle and features Adam wearing a suit of armour in the style of the movie Excalibur. Due to these videos he became know as pop pantomime. The song was one of the earliest rap singles to chart in the UK. Lyrically Adam Ant boasts of his success and his ability to dance, and calls out the anarchists of the music scene, affirming he was never concerned with receiving their “credibility”.

The Military Jacket – The Shape

This record has been modelled into a military jacket as worn by Adam Ant during his live performances. The Military jacket is the top half of the full dress uniform, also known as a ceremonial dress uniform or parade dress uniform. It is the most formal type of uniforms used by military, police, fire and other public uniformed services for official parades, ceremonies, and receptions, including private ones such as marriages and funerals. Full dress uniforms typically include full-size orders and medals insignia. Although full dress uniforms are often brightly coloured and ornamented with gold epaulettes, braids, lanyards, etc., most originated as practical uniforms that, with the adoption of even more practical uniforms, were relegated to ceremonial functions.
